Election and Voting Reform
Our current election rules negatively impact communities of color, youth, mentally ill, disabled, seniors, women and more.. We need to make it easier for people to register to vote, to vote in a primary and to change their party affiliation.
I strongly support:
-
Getting the money out of politics – LLCs and Corporations should have campaign restrictions
-
election day should be a paid state holiday for all New Yorkers or enable Easier absentee ballot
-
Make it easier for people to vote by mail
-
the implementation of early voting in New York State (37 states have it – NOT New York State)
-
pre-registration for 16-17 year olds (13 States and DC include this – NOT New York State)
-
automatic voter registration as an unaffiliated voter at the age of 18 years old (12 states have it – NOT New York State)
-
extending the period in which people can change their party enrollment and register to vote (flexible to change parties)
-
Voter rights for people on parole (16 states restore voting post-incarceration – NOT New York State
